This tool explains and calculates the end time of a 72-hour emergency psychiatric hold in Minnesota under Statute §253B.051. The clock runs hour-by-hour on business days only—weekends and legal holidays are excluded.
🧠 How It Works
- The clock starts when a licensed examiner signs the emergency hold order.
- Only non-holiday weekdays count—no weekends or legal holidays.
- The 72-hour period runs hour-by-hour, not just during business hours.
📅 Example
Hold starts Friday at 6:00 PM
- Friday 6 PM to midnight = 6 hours
- Saturday–Sunday = 0 hours (excluded)
- Monday = +24 hours (now at 30)
- Tuesday = +24 hours (54 total)
- Wednesday = +18 hours → hold ends Wednesday at 12:00 PM
